COVID-19 Guidance for Employees

The State Personnel Office strives to promote and maintain a safe, healthy working environment and is doing its part to reduce community spread and ensure the well-being of all State employees. Below is information related to COVID-19 and Human Resources policies and guidelines. Please check back regularly for up-to-date information.

 

Aug. 31, 2022

New guidelines for masking and COVID-19 vaccinations was released Aug. 31. State Employees are no longer subject to any masking, vaccination, or weekly surveillance testing requirements, with the exception of state employees working in Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), state correctional facilities. Other state agencies may require certain employees to mask while performing their job duties in State locations, but only with a legitimate business reason and advance permission from the State Personnel Director.

State employees not required to mask under the operative public health order may still wear a mask while working if that is their personal preference.

NM COVID-19 Requirements

SPO Guidance on Executive Order 2022-117 (Aug. 31, 2022): Provides state agencies and employees with detailed guidance on the implementation and administration of Executive Order 2022-117 (Aug. 12) and NM Department of Health Public Health Order (Aug. 12). 

Executive Order 2022-117 (Aug. 12, 2022): A negative COVID-19 test result is no longer required for employees not up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations. State employees shall comply with provisions regarding the use of masks and COVID-19 vaccinations contained in the renewed DOH Public Health Order (see below). This executive order supersedes any previous order or directive. 

NM Department of Health Public Health Order (Aug. 12, 2022): Renewal of the declaration of a Public Health Emergency through Aug. 26, 2022. The directives stated in this order replace previous orders and shall remain in effect until otherwise amended or rescinded.
