Ethics Courses Updated to Include Training on New “Nondisclosure of Sensitive Personal Information Act”
The Nondisclosure of Sensitive Personal Information Act is a new New Mexico state statute enacted in the 2025 legislative session which became effective on July 1, 2025. The State Personnel Office Learning and Development Bureau has updated its two ethics courses to include training on the new requirements.
The Act applies to employees and contractors of New Mexico state agencies and governs the disclosure of “sensitive personal information,” including specifying limits for when and how such information can be disclosed and establishing penalties for unauthorized disclosure.
The two courses that have been updated are “Doing the Right Thing: Demonstrating Workplace Ethics” (SoNM-1759), recommended for state employees of all levels, and “Demonstrating Ethical Leadership” (SoNM-1877), recommended for supervisors and managers. The courses are strongly recommended for State of New Mexico employees upon hire and again every one to two years, per agency training requirements. Certificates of training completion should be provided to your agency HR representative unless otherwise specified in your agency’s policy.
