2023 Summer Mentor Training Session – Tues. April 4, 2023 1:30-3:00 PM – for Intern Mentors and agency HR
The State of New Mexico Internship Program is underway! Positions are posted on the State’s Careers site, and soon you will be reviewing applications, writing interview questions, conducting interviews, and selecting your summer Interns! These summer Internships are important positions that allow high school and college students across the state to get an inside view of the State of New Mexico as a rewarding career path and gain valuable work experience. Mentors play a critical role in the quality of a student’s internship experience.
High school and college students may have less experience with job interviewing and less formal work experience to draw from than interviewers are accustomed to. This training is designed to help SoNM intern mentors learn and apply best practices for reviewing internship applicants, writing good interview questions, interviewing candidates, and selecting your summer interns in a way that will result in successful outcomes.
We’ll also preview our next trainings that will help you learn how to manage, support, motivate and set clear performance expectations for interns to allow for a structured and meaningful internship experience for both the intern and mentor, including: onboarding Interns, structuring high-impact internship experiences at SoNM, partnering with your Intern to develop a capstone project, and offboarding Interns.
The training will be held over Zoom, and the Zoom link will be sent to all Mentors and agency HR contacts via Outlook invite.
